Plastic Part Design – A Career
Injection-molded plastic part design is a job thet tends to fall into your lap. You have zero qualifications, and yet, you are supposed to do it perfectly while blindfolded. It’s difficult to lunge forward with confidence when you are building on a poor foundation.
The result is that you proceed with the project with a “learn-as-you-go” approach. Even so, there’s still opportunity to avoid common mistakes, make smart decisions, and release a smart, young, well-prepared injection-molded part into the universe, ready to make a big impact and change the world.
Read on to learn How to Successfully Design Plastic Parts.

In this issue, we will talk about the main methods of installation deployment; manual vs. an Admin Image. Also included are some key steps, cautionary notes, and advice from a guy that has been down this road many times. Let my mistakes be your successes!
Key Step #1- Determining Which Method of Deployment:
It might seem simple, but deciding on the best method of deployment for your installation is a key step. Typically, the method of deployment is determined by the number of users and their locations.
If you are dealing with a handful of users in the same location, a manual deployment is more than adequate but involves you walking around and touching every workstation.
If you are dealing with 10+ users or multiple locations, then creating an Admin Image is the preferred method.

If you have not already installed SOLIDWORKS 2016, you may be in for a surprise that leaves you a little ‘flat.’ At first glance you will think that something just seems odd, and you may even be frustrated that some of the icons are different. But, there is good news!
- SOLIDWORKS is not alone in making these kinds of changes.
- The changes are setting you up for new changes in technology and increased productivity.
FLAT DESIGN
A few years ago, with the release of iOS7, Apple completely changed their user interface to something called a flat design. At the time, many bloggers opined on the matter – some loved it, some hated it, and others thought Apple was already behind the times.

A couple of years ago, a few of us at GoEngineer started dreaming about what we could accomplish if we could gather all of our employees in the same location for a couple of days—call it networking, call it collaboration, call it an excuse to recharge. There was no doubt that the amount of talent and energy that could be shared had the potential to be game-changing for our company and customers.
Full disclosure: there had been flashes of this magic in past meetings with our technical team. We started bringing them together in one location a few years ago, thinking it’d be good to get everyone on the same page.
What we discovered was much bigger.
The impact of putting really bright, energetic, and innovative people in the same room for a few hours would actually create new and better “pages,” ones we hadn’t even considered.

Our Santa Ana, CA office was buzzing with fun and giggles last week. We welcomed an Irvine Girl Scout Troop to get an insider’s look at custom design and 3D printers in action. 11 troop members, aged only 8-9yrs old, were all but shy when it came to being an engineer for the day. They excitedly listened to Jeff Jordan, Applications Engineer at GoEngineer, as he walked them through the SOLIDWORKS design steps of creating a custom Girl Scout cookie. They got their design inspiration from a favorite cookie, the Thin Mint, then added the Girl Scout logo for fun.

This post contains spoilers so be sure to have watched our new 3D printed stop-motion short, SHeLvEd, before reading: SHeLvEd: GoEngineer YouTube
When I was first approached about creating a stop-motion film using 3D printed characters I immediately accepted. “It would be fun,” I thought “…and it will be easy.”
Well the very first thing I learned about filmmaking is that it is not easy. Before I even made it to the technically difficult parts, I was confronted with the surprisingly tough artistic challenges:
- What is the storyline?
- Who are the characters and what do they look like?
- How many explosions should we add?
- Is the ending happy, sad, confusing, a cliffhanger or all of the above?

Social, connected, conceptual, and instinctive are the four pillars of the 3DEXPERIENCE—the next step for the design community!
We should all know what these words mean on their own, but how does that definition change in the context of the design environment?
Let’s explore the definitions of the first two pillars: social and connected. (more…)

Dare to dream: collaborative design with socially connected projects that facilitate design iteration. Wouldn’t that be nice? I know that I could have personally benefited from this concept numerous times. Today we will answer some of the questions that I know a lot of you will have, because I had them myself.
Let’s start with the basics. What is the 3DEXPERIENCE? I have heard several people refer to it as the Facebook for SOLIDWORKS users. There is something to that, but not in the way that you might think. Facebook has forever changed the way that we interact with our social groups. In a similar way, the 3DEXPERIENCE is going to change the way that we interact and work as design teams. You probably won’t see videos of cats jumping into walls in the 3DEXPERIENCE unless, of course, your company designs cat retention systems.
3DEXPERIENCE is a platform that allows users to interact with task specific apps, update colleagues, and capture other ideas as they happen.
