Synergis Software, Going Beyond PDM – An Interview with Scott Lammond

Jeffrey Rowe, MCADCafe’s Managing Editor  recently had an opportunity to interview Scott Lamond,Vice President Sales and Marketing Synergis Software at SolidWorks World 2012 in San Diego. This is a transcript of the interview.

Jeffery:  This is Jeffrey Rowe I’m the editor of MCADCAFE and we are here today at SolidWorks World 2012 in San Diego California. With me today is Scott Lamond Vice president of Sales and Marketing for Synergis Software. Thanks for joining us today Scott.

Scott:  Thank you so much for having me Jeff.

Jeffery:  Can you give us a little background on Synergis Software and how you are positioning the company?

Scott:  Synergis Software has been developing implementing and supporting our product data management and facilities engineering document management solutions for more than 20 years. We serve customers of all sizes across many different industries and have about 30,000 users worldwide benefiting from Adept. We partner directly with our clients, which includes upfront planning through implementation training and ongoing support. Our developer-direct relationship also gives clients direct feedback into the development of the product and it allows us to really make sure we are providing value in a meaningful way to those clients.

We provide companies with a single point of document distribution and control; a way to find their documents easily; automate workflow; visualize mark up and compare their information; and of course we’re tightly integrated with SolidWorks, AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.

Jeffery: It sounds like every implementation is based on customers’ specific needs.

Scott:  We’ve been doing this for 20 years, so we’ve really got dialed in processes to get clients up and running and managing new projects really in a couple of days. If we’re bringing in a large amount of legacy data from another system, the implementation may be a week or two. Our processes are good but the customers’ data and their processes are unique. So we look at each client’s unique situation and implement accordingly.

Jeffery:  Do you define your solutions as strictly product data management or something beyond that?

Scott:  We are actually something beyond product data management. We think of ourselves Product Data Management or PDM plus. Adept goes much more into the process automation workflow solutions than most PDM systems do. One example of this is the way Adept helps with creating and managing the transmittal process, and tracking that information over time.  Transmittal automation is definitely beyond the traditional PDM offering

Jeffery:  Okay now can you discuss what you’re showing here at SolidWorks world.

Scott:  We are here showing Adept 2011, which is the latest version of our software. Adept 2011 delivers several new capabilities to market for our customers. We’ve got a really unique and powerful way to do vault replication. Many of our customers have multiple sites – some throughout the world– and they need the data and the files to be local to everybody. Our vault replication does that companies, but we’re not replicating the entire file across the network–we are replicating only the binary differences. For Adept 2011, we’ve also completely revamped our transmittal automation capabilities, introduced a new web client with workflow capabilities, and have re-constructed our web clients’ interface.

Jeffery:  Is there anything else you’d like to add about your product or technology or your uniqueness in the market place?

Scott: I’ll just say that one of the things that’s unique is with Synergis Software is that you’re working directly with the developer. For companies who have multiple and/or global sites, it’s valuable to work directly with an organization that is 100% focused on PDM and can take responsibility for making sure you are successful. We’ve also got some unique vaulting capabilities, workflow and transmittal automation. These are just a few of the things we offer that set us apart from other PDM solutions.
