In 2020, manufacturing marketplaces like Xometry’s manufacturing as a service (MaaS) model and the increase in additive manufacturing services will reduce concerns about capacity and supply chain. Manufacturing marketplaces allow businesses, ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, to leverage a global network of qualified manufacturers by matching their project needs with the most capable suppliers. This gives companies access to manufacturers beyond their geographical limits.
Companies leveraging more additive manufacturing will also see innovation increase exponentially due to low costs and quicker lead times inherent through 3D printing services. This technology will provide companies with a new way to innovate and supplement their current supply chain. Even the supply chain for manufacturers has benefited from marketplace models. In 2020, small and large manufacturers will be leveraging vendors who can provide cost-effective, high-quality, and fast shipment of the supplies needed to complete jobs. Companies will require manufacturers to continue to provide their parts fast without sacrificing quality.
