A Tale of Two Upcoming Conferences: CIC & NAFEMS

Although still a few months away, there are a couple of important conferences that will be co-located this year — Collaboration & Interoperability Congress (CIC) and NAFEMS Americas Congress.

NAFEMS and Longview Advisors just announced plans to co-locate the NAFEMS 2014 Americas Conference and the Collaboration & Interoperability Congress (CIC) in Colorado Springs, CO, running May 28-30, 2014..

The central theme of the co-located events is, “Driving Product Development with Collaboration, Simulation, and Integration.”

CIC

The 3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress is dedicated to fostering and improving collaboration and interoperability throughout the product lifecycle. Manufacturing is a distributed business, usually involving global design teams and supply chains. World-class manufacturing cannot happen unless people work together effectively, collaborating from any location, and sharing product data safely and accurately.

Now in its tenth year, CIC is the only industry and vendor-neutral event that addresses collaboration and interoperability in product development, manufacturing, and business communications. This vast communication need makes CIC a forum for getting an unbiased perspective to help guide product development, manufacturing and IT strategies.

CIC has grown into a yearly barometer of the state of collaboration and interoperability strategy, technology, and solutions. The three-day international event is “the place to go” for executives, managers, senior engineers and IT professionals to network, learn and strategize with thought leaders from a broad array of commercial and defense industries, as well as with representatives from government.

This year, CIC conference organizers are pleased to announce that NAFEMS (the International Association of the Engineering Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Community) will hold their North American bi-annual conference at 3DCIC 2014. In addition, the PDES Board of Directors will again hold their annual meeting at CIC this year, and the 3DPDF Consortium will hold their annual meeting at 3DCIC.

For decades, executives have understood that the seamless integration of design, analysis/simulation, manufacturing, downstream operations, and the supply chain is the key to effective global business. “It’s the core of the PLM vision,” said David Prawel, president of Longview Advisors and program chair of the congress. “Making this work requires highly trained people, sharing information in efficient processes, supported by world-class technology. This is what 3DCIC is all about.”

NAFEMS

NAFEMS is the International Association of the Engineering Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Community. It is a not-for-profit organization established in 1983 whose principal aims are to:

• Improve the professional status of all persons engaged in the use of engineering simulation
• Establish best practice in engineering simulation
• Provide a focal point for the dissemination and exchange of information and knowledge relating to engineering simulation
• Promote collaboration and communication
• Act as an advocate for the deployment of simulation
• Continuously improve the education and training in the use of simulation techniques
• Be recognized as a valued independent authority that operates with neutrality and integrity

NAFEMS focuses on the practical application of numerical engineering simulation techniques such the Finite Element Method for Structural Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Multibody Simulation. In addition to end users from all industry sectors, its stakeholders include technology providers, researchers, and academics.

There are numerous aspects associated with maximizing the value of using engineering analysis and simulation in addressing the ever-increasing complexity of products and their lifecycles.

I think, most importantly, NAFEMS is an independent and vendor-neutral organization that avoids overt commercialism.

I have attended a few past CIC, and with the addition on NAFEMS, this promises to be a very good conference. I’m looking forward to attending, not just because it’s literally in my own backyard, but because the topics likely to be covered are vital aspects of design, engineering, and manufacturing.
