Jeff Wood – vice president, WW Product Management, Workstation and Thin Client Business HP and Josh Peterson- director, WW Product Management, Workstation and Thin Client Business , HP met with the press in a virtual press briefing prior to the announcement of the new HP Z240 Tower and Z240 SFF Workstations with next generation Intel processors and HP Z Turbo Drive options, raising the bar for entry-level workstations, while providing the reliability of a workstation at the price point of a desktop PC.
A couple of years ago, a few of us at GoEngineer started dreaming about what we could accomplish if we could gather all of our employees in the same location for a couple of days—call it networking, call it collaboration, call it an excuse to recharge. There was no doubt that the amount of talent and energy that could be shared had the potential to be game-changing for our company and customers.
Full disclosure: there had been flashes of this magic in past meetings with our technical team. We started bringing them together in one location a few years ago, thinking it’d be good to get everyone on the same page.
What we discovered was much bigger.
The impact of putting really bright, energetic, and innovative people in the same room for a few hours would actually create new and better “pages,” ones we hadn’t even considered.
A day before its official release, I spoke with a couple of Autodesk Fusion 360 staffers, Daniel Graham, Fusion 360 Senior Product Manager and Bill Danon about what to expect in the newest update.
The biggest news was the inclusion of simulation capabilities in Fusion 360 – at no additional cost – at least not for now or the foreseeable future. That in itself is pretty significant. Of course, there were some other improvements and enhancements, but let’s start with simulation
Simulation in Fusion 360 lets you perform linear stress analysis that assumes linear elastic behavior and infinitesimally small displacements and strains, as well as modal analysis for study the dynamic properties of structures undergoing vibration. With Fusion 360 simulation you can define materials, add constraints, and add loads to solve for weaknesses in assemblies, within the design environment.
When in the Fusion 360 design environment, a workspace labeled “SIM” under the workspace switcher is where you choose from two types of simulation studies: Static Stress and Modal Frequencies.

When developing large and complex products such as cars or aeroplanes, you can be faced with the need to use numerous CAD systems in-house, on a single product design and manufacturing task
Whilst this design process may be an efficient way to manufacture these types of products it can cause problems when the CAD data needs to be exchanged by those involved in the design process who may not be using the same CAD software. CAD to CAD and CAD to Visualization translators are available, but what if the OEM uses CATIA but needs to also access CAD data from NX, CREO or JT systems directly from within their CATIA design environment without the need for external translation tools?
Theorem have come up with a Multi-CAD solution that allows designers and engineers to do just that. Based upon the Dassault Systemes XCAD infrastructure, it allows CATIA V5 users to incorporate parts and assemblies from the other CAD systems, such as NX and Creo, within the CATIA environment without having to use external translators. It pulls the files directly into CATIA and uses the existing V5 commands of “Insert existing component”, “file open” and “file save as”. It then checks the geometry for errors and validates the integrity of the data as it comes into CATIA. The beauty of the solution is the interlinking of the CATIA and foreign CAD data.
