Bimba Manufacturing Company Gains a Competitive Advantage With SolidWorks 3D PartStream.NET

3D PartStream.NET lowers design costs for Bimba's customers by offering easy online access to downloadable CAD models of pneumatic components

CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 2002-- Bimba Manufacturing Company, a leading manufacturer of pneumatic components such as Original Line, Flat-1®, TRD, Double Wall® and ISO 6431/6432 air cylinders, Pneu-Turn® rotary actuators, linear thrusters, Ultran® rodless cylinders, and flow controls, is using SolidWorks 3D PartStream.NET® Internet technology to increase customer productivity while gaining a competitive advantage, SolidWorks announced today. With 3D PartStream.NET technology, Bimba provides over 15,000 visitors to its site with easy access to downloadable three-dimensional computer-aided design (3D CAD) models of its pneumatic products. Online access to models of Bimba's products, which come in hundreds of millions of possible configurations, reduces customer design time while helping Bimba's sales.

3D PartStream.NET helps Bimba's customers, including manufacturers of material handling and packaging equipment, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and agricultural machinery, save hours of time associated with designing components from scratch based on information found in paper catalogs. Now, within a few minutes, customers can easily search for the exact pneumatic products they need, configure the components to their specifications, view 3D models for better visual understanding, and download CAD files for use in their designs.

"3D PartStream.NET allows us to deliver made-to-order products to our customers through an intuitive and easy to maintain Web site," said Bill Kokum, director of marketing at Bimba Manufacturing Company. "By offering access to downloadable CAD models with support for all major CAD systems, we are helping our customers get to market faster while establishing a competitive advantage over other pneumatic component manufacturers."

Bimba chose 3D PartStream.NET technology for its robust product configuration capabilities and broad range of file formats. The majority of Bimba's products come made-to-order including their non-repairable air cylinders, which come in millions of different configurations. 3D PartStream.NET allows Bimba to easily manage its 25 major product lines online, while offering its customers the ability to simply type in a parameter value such as a stroke length or rod extension length. Customers can then view and download custom built 3D models for use in their designs.

"Bimba's use of 3D PartStream.NET builds brand loyalty by making it easier and more efficient for customers to design products with Bimba parts," said Bob Noftle, general manager of 3D content solutions at SolidWorks Corporation. "The time and expense customers save with the downloadable models gives them an advantage over competitors who use paper catalogs."
