Previous installments of the EDAC - Jim Hogan series are available in the EDAC media library.

Export and Government Relations – Supports the interests of EDA in matters pertaining to product export.

Are you in compliance with the US and EU Sanctions on Russia? If you are doing business in Russia, be aware that the standard technique of screening the customer name against the various prohibited parties lists is not enough. The new Sanctions are not all-encompassing, and because of this screening your customer becomes a manual and time-consuming process.

A key component of the Sanctions is the 50% rule. If a company is owned or controlled 50% or more by a listed organization, they are also Sanctioned. Several former EDA customers are now prohibited parties due to their ownership by a named organization. If you are not researching the ownership of your customer in Russia, then you are putting yourself at risk of violation.

Additional information and FAQs.

Interoperability – Drives EDA standards and quality for the benefit of the industry.

The EDAC OS roadmap helps EDA vendors and customers to determine which operating systems are best for design starts. Be sure to check the EDAC web site for the latest information as you plan upcoming projects and purchases.

Phil Kaufman Award – Selects the recipients of the prestigious EDAC/CEDA Phil Kaufman Award to honor an individual who has had a demonstrable IMPACT on the field of electronic design through contributions in Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

On November 4, 2014, EDAC and IEEE-CEDA presented the 2014 Phil Kaufman Award to Dr. Lucio Lanza, who was honored for providing innovative EDA and IP companies with exceptional vision, mentoring, and financial support. Videos and photos from the award presentation and dinner are available on the EDAC web site

License Management & Anti-Piracy – Provides a forum for members to identify and solve software licensing and piracy problems common to EDA vendors and their customers.

The EDAC License Management and Anti-Piracy (EDAC-LMA) Committee continues to meet regularly to discuss and review items related to the licensing of our individual products. Recent discussions have centered on everyday concerns related to FlexNet Publisher, the licensing tools used by most EDA vendors, and the ongoing issue of HostID duplication.

As we discuss these issues, we often include representatives from large enterprise customers, who are generally trying to adhere to their licensing agreements. This dialog helps us remain cognizant of our customer's concerns, and may guide us to solutions which can benefit EDA customers as well as vendors.

In addition, we invited the technology vendor Arxan to present their solutions for IP protection to the group. Vendor visits are useful for us to obtain good information; they are also a great opportunity for the vendors to present once to an audience representing multiple EDA software companies.

Market Statistics Service – Generates the quarterly EDA revenue report available to EDAC members.

The MSS report for Q2, 2014 was released in October, showing another quarter of solid growth for the EDA industry. Overall industry revenue was up 6.3% compared to Q2, 2013. [ Press release] Highlights of the Q2 report, along with highlights of the previous 4 quarters, are available on the EDAC web site MSS page . The full report is available to EDAC member companies.
