It’s The Little Things – SOLIDWORKS 2015 Enhancements

April 22nd, 2015 by Ron Grover

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that bring the most satisfaction. With over 200 enhancements that SOLIDWORKS makes with each release; small enhancements and sometimes entirely new tools, can go unnoticed. Such is the case with two particular enhancements found in SOLIDWORKS 2015.

SW15The first enhancement I would like to bring to light, and quite possibly the easiest to overlook, is the addition of a year on the SOLIDWORKS icon. For those SOLIDWORKS junkies among us, and those who have multiple versions installed, this means that it’s no longer a best guess as to which SOLIDWORKS version you are opening. Maybe I am easy to please but I really like this 4 character enhancement to SOLIDWORKS 2015.

SW15.1The second, and more significant enhancement, is the addition of a “My Products” tool. Again, this is one of those enhancements that may be easily overlooked yet can provide valuable insight regarding which products are installed and activated on your system. The My Products tool is found by navigating to Start >> SOLIDWORKS 2015 >> SOLIDWORKS Tools >> My Products.

The My Products tool shows, in an easy to understand graphical format, what products are installed on your system.  It also contains web links to each product page for additional product specific information. With SOLIDWORKS 2015 the question of what products you are using is easy to answer – no more hunting in Help menus.

SW15.2The hundreds of other SOLIDWORKS enhancements are powerful and useful and make SOLIDWORKS 2015 the best release yet. However, the small, often overlooked things that put a smile on your face, or make something just a bit easier, are just as important.

I would encourage you to take some time to look at all of the enhancements in SOLIDWORKS 2015 by reading the What’s New in SOLIDWORKS 2015 or watching the What’s New videos at the GoEngineer.com video library. You might just find that little gem that brings a smile to your face too.

I am so glad to see that there is someone else that is excited about those small thing that do the difference and not just looking for the big changes.
    Thanks.
