McKean Wins SAE International/AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award

WARRENDALE, Pa., Jan. 5, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — Andrew McKean, a structural analyst  for the John Deere Construction & Forestry Division, Dubuque Works, was honored with the 2010 SAE International/AEM Outstanding Young Engineer Award during the SAE 2010 Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress and Exhibition, held last fall in Rosemont, Ill.

The award recognizes an outstanding young engineer in the off-highway or powerplant industry. Established in 1996, the award was proposed by senior engineering executives and is administered under the auspices of the SAE Engineering Meetings Board in cooperation with AEM.

In his role with John Deere, McKean is responsible for validating structural performance of new structural component designs for hydraulic excavators. In his previous position, he was a design engineer and team leader for backhoe operator station new product design. Prior to joining Deere, McKean worked as a research assistant in the Virtual Reality Applications Center at Iowa State University. McKean has been a member of SAE International for four years, and has been active in SAE International and ISO standards development for the off-highway industry as a member of the technical committees for protective structures and personnel protection.

McKean holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University.
