ZWCAD Selects Siemens PLM Software’s D-Cubed Constraint Solver for Intellicad-Based Application

D-Cubed 2D DCM will Power the Driving Dimensions and Geometric Constraints in a New Sketcher for ZWCAD Professional

PLANO, Texas, September 28, 2010 – Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and ZWCAD Software Co. Ltd., a leading provider of computer-aided design (CAD) products, today announced the licensing by ZWCAD of Siemens PLM Software’s D-Cubed™ software for use in ZWCADTM Professional software.

With more than 180,000 users worldwide, ZWCAD Professional is the first application based on the IntelliCAD® software targeted for integration with the D-Cubed 2D DCM (Dimensional Constraint Manager). It offers comprehensive design and drafting capabilities, drawing (dwg) file import/export, and extensive application programming interfaces that support a growing community of partner applications.  ZWCAD Software is a member of the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium and Open Design Alliance. The 2D DCM is offered to members of these organizations with the 2D DCM Teigha™ software wrapper, an interface that can help them integrate the 2D DCM rapidly into their applications.

The D-Cubed 2D DCM is the most widely adopted geometric constraint solver among CAD developers by a wide margin. It solves driving dimensions and geometric constraints to provide a parametric sketching capability in CAD systems. The 2D DCM enables CAD users to build and revise their mechanical designs and architectural plans more efficiently. It enables CAD developers to give their users a parametric sketching capability which is most consistent with the behavior of other 2D DCM-based CAD products. This significantly facilitates collaboration and interoperability when exchanging parametric sketches between different CAD systems.

“Prior to selecting the 2D DCM, we conducted a thorough evaluation of 2D geometric constraint solving technology,” said Kingdom Lin, vice director of the overseas department at ZWCAD Software. “Our software developers were impressed with the functionality, performance and reliability of the 2D DCM, as well as its ease of integration, thanks to the assistance of the D-Cubed components support team and the new 2D DCM Teigha Wrapper. The stable business model of the D-Cubed organization also reassured us that our long-term supply of the 2D DCM will remain secure. Overall, a very favorable cost/benefit analysis made the 2D DCM the clear choice for ZWCAD.”

“Through our open business model, we are proud to license the 2D DCM to a wide variety of software organizations, including our competitors,” said Joan Hirsch, vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “This enables our clients to provide their customers with affordable sketching functionality, sourced from the most well-established supplier. We look forward to supporting ZWCAD Software as they deliver the latest 2D DCM-based CAD product to the design and engineering community.”
