The Emerging Technology Center is the first state supported new building to be constructed on the WKCTC campus in over 20 years. The Center is located in Paducah, Kentucky and is specially designed to provide the region with resources to meet the needs of today's technically advanced workforce. Included in the Emerging Technology Center is an auditorium that incorporates EON Icatcher, a high-end visualization system to display interactive 3D virtual reality in high definition. In addition, the Center uses EON's Holopodium, a telepresence system that combines video and virtual reality that makes it possible to be in two places at once. This unique technology allows the "sender" to appear within a "real-time" holographic 3D environment with such clarity and realism that it appears as if the person is actually in the same room while interacting face-to-face and having direct eye contact with other people in one or more locations.
"As evidenced by the Emerging Technology Center at WKCTC, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) continues to be a leader in the U.S. for its vision in embracing the integration of visualization technologies," said Marly Bergerud, EON's vice president for education development. "Other colleges within the Kentucky system that have partnered with EON for visualization technology implementations include Bowling Green Technical College which hosts the KCTCS Interactive Digital Center, Hazard Community and Technical College, Madisonville Community College and Maysville Community and Technical College," she explained. "It is very exciting how the Kentucky system continues to infuse visualization technologies statewide to improve teaching and learning and to assist companies in reducing costs."
