OPEN MIND Technologies at Eastac 2010 in Springfield

Needham, Massachusetts, May 2010 – Leading technological CAD and CAM solutions for the complete machining of workpieces: At Eastec 2010 (Booth 5505) in West Springfield, OPEN MIND Technologies will present its latest products for developing and optimising seamless process chains in digital manufacturing. The highlight at this year’s exhibition is the release of hyperMILL® 2009.2 with CAD integrations for Autodesk® Inventor® 2011 and SolidWorks® 2010.

Faster manufacturing on mill and mill/turn machines with high process reliability and resulting surface quality: At Eastec 2010 in West Springfield, OPEN MIND Technologies will demonstrate its leading range of technological solutions, including CAM systems, CAD software and CAD/CAM-integrated environments. CAD and CAM programmers will benefit from efficient operating concepts that incorporate intelligent technologies for automated programming. These solutions implement leading high-tech CAM strategies for complete machining, including 5-axis machining with fully automated collision avoidance. As a CAM expert, OPEN MIND’s product range also includes powerful postprocessor technology that can be tailored to suit the customer’s specific machine.

Notable highlights on display at the OPEN MIND booth (Booth 5505):

Production-Oriented Milling Concepts

OPEN MIND has added a suite of innovative functions for production-oriented machining, reducing time during milling and during transition “air” cuts.

The functions include “smart” retract and insert macros that seek optimal paths to connect tool retracts and following insert moves. Connection paths need not continually run to safety planes. The “smart” paths are fully interference checked, whether in 3-axis or 5-axis.

Other functions include efficient programming for patterns such as translations, rotations and mirrors. These steps require minimal added user selections and provide high assurance and checking. For transformations and any machining function, programming can be defined by “associative job copies”. This process allows a new programming step to associatively grab the machining parameters from related job steps. Interesting is that parameters can be individually unlinked so that the “associativity” can be applied for repeated geometry or similar geometry.

Another breakthrough technology is “job linking” where sequential machining steps that use the same cutter can be joined with a “smart” connection, again avoiding extra moves to safety planes. Users can define their own machining processes as linked combinations of foundation routines. When stored in a process database, these routines are available “out of the box” for future projects.

hyperMILL® in Autodesk® Inventor®, hyperMILL® for SolidWorks®

The full functional range of hyperMILL® is available as a powerful CAM solution for hyperMILL® in Autodesk® Inventor® and hyperMILL® for SolidWorks®. OPEN MIND’s CAD-integrated CAM solutions offer users innovative functions and extensions such as an optimised fast travel concept, extended job list, improved tool database as well as transformation and mirroring functions. Thanks to the integration, the user interface of the CAM application takes on the familiar ‘look and feel’ of the CAD software. This increases the speed and efficiency of CAM programming, prevents errors and reduces the user’s overall workload.

The CAD-integrated OPEN MIND solution has been certified by Autodesk Inc. for use with Autodesk® Inventor® 2011. The CAD software provider has thus confirmed the full integration and data associativity of hyperMILL® for its CAD suite.

The CAD integration of hyperMILL® for SolidWorks® has been approved as a “Certified Gold Product” by the Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. due to its seamless integration, quality and interoperability.

Job linking: Sequences of machining jobs that are

machined using the same tool can be combined into a single step.

Mirroring allows users to reproduce machining operations

of identical geometries. With hyperMILL® 2009.2, this function

is available to Inventor and SolidWorks users.
