DEWA implemented ArcFM UT Network Information System

October 22, 2009 —Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has introduced ArcFM UT as their new Network Information System. The decision to upgrade the existing ArcGIS-based application to a modern GIS solution was based on a functional and data gap analysis executed by an external consulting company. DEWA selected ArcFM UT due to the richness of functionality and the good match to their needs along with the fact that it was built on top of ESRI’s core ArcGIS platform.

The project which started midst of 2008 went through typical stages like requirement analysis, data modeling, configuration and data import. It was completed in August 2009. The entire network data from Dubai was imported from the old system and is now available in a central ArcFM UT database from where all departments can retrieve any network information via the new ArcFM UT Web application.

In addition, essential business processes like the “No Objection Certificate (NOC)” for construction permits, the customer information service and the draft network planning were implemented as well. “We spent significant efforts in analyzing essential departmental needs with respect to a central GIS in terms of improved workflows and data usage,” said Eng. Majed Hussain Mohd, GIS Manager at DEWA. As a result the users currently take direct advantage from this enhanced functionality of ArcFM UT.

The project was implemented by GISTEC. AED SICAD AG acted as a subcontractor with specific support tasks.
