Detroit Chassis Partners with IBM, Michigan Technological University and Davis Aerospace Technical High School on Technology Day 2008

DETROIT—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 2, 2008— Detroit Chassis LLC, an automotive manufacturing company of niche vehicles, assembler of transit bus and RV chassis and subsidiary of Spectra LMP LLC, partnered with IBM Corporation, Michigan Technological University and Davis Aerospace Technical High School for Technology Day 2008 Think ItDesign ItMake It Happen with Technology! Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Davis campus located adjacent to the Detroit City Airport. A ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted as IBM awarded Davis Aerospace 12 laptop computers with software and 2 printers for their mobile computer laboratory. The event was attended by students, parents, and faculty along with representatives from each organization. Bill Luse, Sr. State Executive, IBM Corporation was the emcee and Michael J. Guthrie, President and CEO, Detroit Chassis delivered the key note address.

Technology labs were conducted which highlighted: Open Source: free software you can download at home on your computer; Segway Technology, developed from Dean Kamens Independence IBOTTM Mobility System Technology; Intelligence Ground Systems, Robotic technology used by the armed forces to diagnose possible battle field threats; PowerUP, IBMs new 3D virtual world game that allows students to travel to different climates and environments while designing, building ( www.powerupthegame.org), and testing things that impact ecology; College & University Assistance, preparation for college using the computer and internet; Open Source and Free Software; and, National Engineers Week, information about careers in engineering.

"Today's Technology Day provides students and their parents an opportunity to engage with technology in a fun, innovative way; while at the same time providing a valuable learning opportunity to help increase the interest of today's youth in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math)," said Bill Luse, Senior State Executive, IBM Corporation.

Davis award winning robotics team shared their experiences from their 1st years competition while demonstrating their entrys capabilities.

IBM sadly announced the passing away of Ms. Lenora Hayes, IBMs Corporate Citizenship and Corporate Affairs Manager. Ms. Hayes was a 31 year IBM employee who was passionate about leveraging IBMs philanthropy to make a difference in our community. Lenora was instrumental in creating the collaboration between IBM, Michigan Technological University, Davis Aerospace Technical High School and Detroit Chassis to bring about this event.
