April 14, 2008: Planit has announced the release of Edgecam 12.5. This latest release of Edgecam delivers extensive new capabilities to many areas of the product, including ease-of-use, automation, mill-turn programming and integration with solid CAD systems.

Improvements to Edgecam’s Automatic Feature Recognition (AFR) now allow for rapid model alignment and feature finding across multiple faces in both milling and turning.

The capabilities of Edgecam Strategy Manager have now been extended to include programming for mill-turn applications. Best practice milling and turning machining parameters can be easily applied to the most complex components.

Enhancements to Edgecam’s feature browser gives users greater control over the machining order, making it easier to view which tools and cycles have been applied to a feature. The manufacturing sequence can be easily sorted by feature type or manufacturing method, and modified using simple drag and drop techniques.

A new rough turning cycle includes improved chip control, reducing notching and tool wear. Also within the turning environment, enhanced chuck jaw and chuck setup options contribute to greater machine tool set-up flexibility and improved collision detection.
