Hitachi and HP Extend Global OEM Agreement

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 25, 2007— Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions, today announced it has extended its global OEM agreement with HP for storage resource management software. Hitachi combines HP's flagship storage resource management (SRM) software suite, Storage Essentials, with the company's own feature-rich internally developed software to deliver best-in-class storage management services to customers. Today's news marks an extension to the existing strategic worldwide partnership Hitachi Data Systems forged with AppIQ in 2003, prior to its acquisition by HP in late 2005.

Commenting on today's announcement, Enterprise Strategy Group analyst Bob Laliberte stated, "Today's news underscores Hitachi Data Systems' track record of embracing an ecosystem of strong storage partners aligned under one common goal, which is to satisfy customer needs. The OEM alliance is directly in line with Hitachi's storage management software strategy to provide customers with open-standards-based storage management solutions that align mission-critical application availability and performance with a heterogeneous storage infrastructure, under a common management interface. Clearly, Hitachi delivers an impressive array of software that enables customers to simplify and optimize their complex storage environments."

The storage resource management software products based on HP software provide capabilities that are complementary to Hitachi Data Systems' own internally developed portfolio of SRM, which has garnered strong customer adoption and accelerated share gains for the company in this fast-growing market space. Combining the strength from both its vast global partner network and its established research and development engine, Hitachi has extended the functionality and reach of the Hitachi Storage Management Software Suite to uniquely address customer needs for SRM, backup reporting, root-cause analysis and change management.

"HP and Hitachi are delivering innovative storage management solutions that enable customers to more efficiently manage their storage infrastructures -- thereby driving deeper value to the business," said Bob Schultz, senior vice president and general manager, Enterprise Storage and Software Division, HP. "HP's close collaboration with Hitachi will continue to drive joint revenue opportunities for both companies in the future."

"Hitachi continues to successfully execute on its pragmatic approach towards build versus buy -- delivering customers unique best-of-breed solutions that fuse the best products on the market today with innovative custom solutions from Hitachi," said John Mansfield, senior vice president, Global Solutions Strategy and Development, Hitachi Data Systems. "HP's storage resource management software coupled with our own investments in software development have enabled Hitachi to offer customers a comprehensive open-systems SRM portfolio that provides broad platform support for multiple operating systems and applications."

Storage management is a key storage service delivered by Hitachi Data Systems. Hitachi Services Oriented Storage Solutions applies service-oriented architecture (SOA) concepts to storage to deliver a platform that offers sets of automated functions delivered as services to the business which can be invoked as needed.

HP and Hitachi have a long-standing partnership; HP OEMs the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform(TM) V and Network Storage Controller, Hitachi resells HP's flagship storage resource management (SRM) software suite, Storage Essentials, Hitachi, Ltd. OEMs servers from HP, and both companies collaborate in the business PC market segment.
