KIVERA POWERS AT&T WIRELESS’ “FIND FRIENDS” APPLICATION

AT&T Wireless Customers Can Now Quickly Locate Friends And Family, Arrange Meetings, And Get Directions On Their Mobile Phones

Oakland, Calif., -- June 25 2002 -- Kivera, the standard for location-based services, today announced that its Location Engine technology powers the “Find Friends” application, recently launched by AT&T Wireless. Part of AT&T Wireless’ newly deployed mMode service, “Find Friends” allows users of compatible wireless phones to track the location of friends and family who sign up for the service.

Kivera develops location-based services for the Web and automotive industries. AT&T Wireless’ ”Find Friends” application is the first U.S. implementation of its type of wireless data service. Kivera’s carrier-grade Location Engine, chosen by AT&T Wireless, delivers full-functionality, reliability and scalability.

By interpreting a mobile phone’s latitude and longitude, Kivera’s platform pinpoints a user’s location with industry-leading accuracy. Using Kivera’s proximity search capabilities, mobile phone users can locate shops, restaurants and bars nearby, arrange meetings with their friends, and get detailed travel directions. To protect privacy, users must opt in to the service, granting tracking permission to specific persons. Users may turn off the service, making their phones “invisible,” at any time.

Kivera’s Location Engine was selected by AT&T Wireless to perform reverse geocoding, proximity searches, map and direction generation and point-of-interest functions in support of the “Find Friends” application. Kivera’s professional services team worked closely with AT&T Wireless developers to ensure that the service performs reliably and accurately.

“Kivera’s location engine is at the core of AT&T Wireless’ mMode Find Friends’ service,” said Phil Osman, executive vice president of Operations for AT&T Wireless. “Kivera’s Professional Services group provided not only strategic consulting, but also application development services to help AT&T Wireless successfully deploy the “Find Friends” application quickly and seamlessly.”

“Launching the “Find Friends” service is a pivotal moment in the U.S. wireless industry’s history, and achieving this goal is a testament to AT&T Wireless’ vision,” said Clay Collier, CEO, Kivera. “Kivera is proud to be working with AT&T Wireless to launch this ground-breaking location-based service by providing industry-defining user location technology. Kivera believes that wireless data services will grow rapidly, generating increased revenue and loyalty from wireless customers.”

mMode gives AT&T Wireless customers the ability to use their mobile phones for much more than simple voice communication. Using mMode, AT&T Wireless customers have instant access to the information they need and people they care about. mMode is currently available in 15 metropolitan areas where AT&T Wireless GSM/GPRS service is available: Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; Cleveland; Indianapolis; Seattle; Las Vegas; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; Kansas City, Mo.; Miami/Fort Lauderdale; Orlando, Fla.; Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.; West Palm Beach, Fla. and San Diego. The service will be rolled out to all AT&T Wireless markets by the end of 2002.

Kivera Location Engine is available with interfaces for Solaris, HP-UX, Windows NT/2000, Linux, Java, and also offers a new XML interface. Standard map databases supported by version 2.2 include GDT North America, NavTech Full Coverage of North America and Europe, TeleAtlas North America and Europe, and DMTI Spatial(TM) Canadian coverage.
