Spectrum Mapping Exhibits LIDAR/Multi-Sensor Fusion and Feature Extraction

Denver, Colo. – Monday, November 06, 2006 – Spectrum Mapping, LLC announced it will feature LIDAR/multi-sensor fusion, feature extraction and the generation of 3-D city models at booth 46 at the ASPRS/MAPPS 2006 Specialty Conference, “Measuring the Earth (Part II) - Latest Developments with Digital Surface Modeling and Automated Feature Extraction,” November 6-10, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Riverwalk, San Antonio, Texas.

Raul Campos-Marquetti, Senior Scientist for Spectrum Mapping will present the paper, “LIDAR Automated Feature Extraction Toolkit: Generation of Downtown Urban and Residential 3D Databases.”

Spectrum Mapping is a full service mapping company with offices located throughout North America. Spectrum’s leading-edge work with multiple digital data sets ( Hyperspectral imagery, digital orthos, and LIDAR) to create “Intelligent Data” allows the generation of 3-D geospatial information previously unattainable. This “Intelligent” geospatial data is the result of automated feature extraction and modeling capabilities Spectrum has developed to create features such as building footprints, 3-D buildings, and materials classification of man-made and natural environments.

Many of these processes were developed by Spectrum as a result of two major contracts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program to evaluate automatic feature extraction, classification, LIDAR filtering techniques, and the capability to digitally extract 3-D earth surface feature information from LIDAR data. Spectrum also developed the LAS format for LIDAR data that has become the industry standard and adopted by the major photogrammetric software and LIDAR system providers, US Army Corps of Engineers and The American Society for Photogrammetrists and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
