Raindrop Geomagic, Minolta Europe GmbH to Provide New Integrated 3D Technologies

Agreement provides one-stop shopping for 3D photography

LANGENHAGEN, GERMANY, 21 February 2002 Raindrop Geomagic and Minolta Europe GmbH have entered into a reseller agreement to provide new integrated 3D technologies to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Under the agreement, Raindrop Geomagic has integrated Minolta's VIVID scanner drivers into its Geomagic Studio software, and provided a customized interface for VIVID 300 and 900 3D non-contact color digitizers and their rotary stages. Minolta Europe will integrate Geomagic software into its existing product range to provide a single source for digital 3D scanning and modeling solutions.

Raindrop Geomagic's software enables 3D photography, which fully automates the capture, processing and production of 3D models. 3D photography is the driving force behind such processes as digital manufacturing, mass customization, computer-aided inspection, and 3D graphics for marketing.

As the manufacturer of the world's first portable 3D non-contact digitizer, Minolta Europe will play a key role in spreading 3D photography applications in business and industry, according to Ping Fu, president and CEO of Raindrop Geomagic.

"The new wave of manufacturing is mass customization individually made products manufactured in large volumes," says Fu. "The fuel for this movement will be participation by recognized industry leaders such as Minolta. This partnership brings a well-respected company to the hardware side of the solution."

"Raindrop Geomagic's technology is bringing us closer to realizing the full potential of 3D photography," says Michael Bassett, manager of the Minolta 3D Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa. "We are offering solutions rather than just tools. While Minolta's VIVID scanners remain compatible with most modeling and CAD software, our customers will now have a seamless way to capture physical objects and turn them into digital assets for industrial design, engineering, manufacturing, QC inspection and other applications."

Raindrop Geomagic (www.geomagic.com) provides 3D photography solutions for digital manufacturing, mass customization and quality assurance. In addition to industry-leading products, the company offers technology and process consulting, custom software development for specific industries, systems integration, and specialized interfaces to Geomagic Studio software. Manufacturers worldwide including Toyota, Harley-Davidson, Fisher-Price, Align and many others turn to Raindrop Geomagic to provide the technology for customizing products, automating processes, and increasing throughput.
