Former Ford CEO, Alan Mulally, Joins Carbon3D Board Of Directors

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 1, 2015 — Carbon3D, Inc., a Silicon Valley based 3D printing company, today announced that Alan Mulally, the former CEO of Ford Motor Company and past President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, has joined its board of directors. Mr. Mulally officially joined Carbon3D’s board on May 29, 2015 as its first independent director.

Carbon3D recently introduced an innovative approach to polymer-based 3D printing that promises to advance the industry beyond basic prototyping to 3D manufacturing. The new CLIP (Continuous Liquid Interface Production) technology harnesses light and oxygen to rapidly grow commercial quality objects from a pool of resin instead of printing them layer-by-layer.

“We are thrilled to have Alan join us on our journey to productize our CLIP technology and transform manufacturing,” said Joseph DeSimone, Carbon3D co-founder and CEO. “Alan not only knows our key markets inside and out as a proven product designer, engineer and world-class business leader, he also brings a strong sense of how vocation and service are integral to corporate leadership today which will benefit us immensely going forward.”

“I am honored to join the Carbon3D board and contribute to the further development of this breakthrough in manufacturing technology. The CLIP technology has the potential to accelerate solutions to many of our biggest challenges in fields as varied as energy, transportation, and medicine,” said Mr. Mulally.

Mr. Mulally served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company from September 2006 through June 2014, successfully leading Ford through the fiscal crisis that began in 2008 and driving the automaker’s digital transformation to become a leader in in-car technology. Prior to Ford, he served as Executive Vice President of the Boeing Company and President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Inc., after rising through the engineering ranks on the Boeing 727, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 projects. More recently, Mr. Mulally was appointed to the Google board of directors in July 2014.

Mr. Mulally holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Kansas, and a Master’s degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a 1982 Alfred P. Sloan fellow. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of England’s Royal Academy of Engineering.
