Breker Verification Systems Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary

Vows to Trounce Risky Stitch-and-Ship SoC Verification Strategy

SAN JOSE, CALIF. –– May 14, 2013 –– Breker Verification Systems ( www.brekersystems.com), The System-on-Chip (SoC) Verification Company, will celebrate its 10th anniversary now through the 50th Design Automation Conference (DAC), where it will exhibit in Booth #2015 June 3-5 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.

Crowning 10 years of achievement is TrekSoC™, Breker’s flagship software that automatically generates self-verifying and synchronized C test cases to run on an SoC’s multiple heterogeneous embedded processors for faster and more thorough verification. TrekSoC, first introduced in 2007, has been used to verify a variety of automotive, graphics and networking designs that have been taped out successfully and are in production use now.

“Breker is changing an industry perception and trouncing the notorious stitch and ship practice,” says Adnan Hamid, Breker’s co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO). “Limited time and resources have created the misguided notion that individual IP blocks verified separately and plugged into an SoC will work together without essential full-chip verification running randomized user scenarios.”

Instead of assuming an SoC with numerous embedded processors will work harmoniously, project teams are implementing the scenario modeling approach advocated by Breker and implemented by TrekSoC, saving countless tapeout disasters. Breker pioneered the use of graph-based scenarios for functional representation of an SoC as well as the use of these graphs to generate high-quality test cases to thoroughly verify the design.

“NVIDIA sends its hearty congratulations to Breker for achieving this milestone and wishes it more good fortune,” notes Jonah Alben, senior vice president GPU Engineering at NVIDIA. “We have used the Trek family of products for the verification of many, many chip designs and can attest to its importance as a solid and critical component of our design flow. As a result, Breker is a valued EDA partner.”

A 10-Year Journey

Since 2003, Breker has worked diligently to fulfill its mission to be the first electronic design automation (EDA) company to solve the functional verification challenges of complex SoC designs containing embedded processors. To fully verify an SoC design, TrekSoC generates C test cases containing multiple streams of realistic user scenarios and schedules the steps so that they cross threads and processors.

Originally founded in Austin, Breker relocated its corporate headquarters to San Jose, Calif., in 2012, and secured $5 million in Series A funding. Previously, Breker bootstrapped itself with a small, initial round of angel investment that enabled TrekSoC to gain market traction. The 2012 infusion of capital has been used to expand operations in all areas of marketing, sales, support and research and development, tripling the size of the company. Breker opened a sales channel for India and Singapore in 2012.
