San Diego Student Robotics Team Heads to FIRST Championships

Francis Parker High School Robotics Team, the W.A.R. Lords, head to the 2013 FIRST Championships in St. Louis April 24-27, 2013, with help from sponsors like EnvironmentalLights.com


April 25, 2013 - EnvironmentalLights.com, a leading source for high-quality, energy-efficient LED lighting, mentored and sponsored the FIRST Robotics team from Francis Parker High School in San Diego throughout the past five months of development. With the help of team sponsors and mentors, the W.A.R. Lords (We Are Robot Lords) team won the Inland Empire Regionals in San Bernardino, CA on March 30 and are on their way to the FIRST Championships in St. Louis, MO April 24 – 27, 2013.

“It was so great to see the W.A.R. Lords compete and see their robot in action,” said Greg Thorson, President of EnvironmentalLights.com. “They showed leadership and teamwork while working in their alliance with Team 1538 (The Holy Cows) and Team 968 (Robotics Alliance of West Covina) to win the Inland Empire Regionals. We are very excited for the championships this week!”

Ultimate Ascent is played between two Alliances of three teams each. Each Alliance competes by trying to score as many flying discs into their goals as possible during the two-minute and 15-second match. Discs scored in higher goals score Alliances more points. Matches end with robots attempting to climb up pyramids located near the middle of the field.

FIRST National Championships

The FIRST Championship games for 2013 will be housed at the America’s Center Convention Complex in St. Louis with a total of 502,000 contiguous square feet of exhibit space in six halls, 83 meeting rooms, the 1,411 fixed-seat Ferrara Theatre, the St. Louis Executive Conference Center and The Edward Jones Dome.

St. Louis, with a 66,000 seat arena capacity, was selected from among three finalist cities to host the expanding FIRST programs which are projected to reach over 200,000 young people in 50 countries worldwide in its 2010 season.
