Snowflake Software to provide CityGML Extension review and encoding for the Ordnance Survey of Great Britain

Snowflake Software to collaborate on i-SCOPE project

Southampton, UK., March 07, 2013 - - Snowflake Software, specialist in data exchange solutions via Open Standards, has been awarded a contract by the Ordnance Survey of Great Britain (OSGB) as part of the collaborative, European Commission co-funded i-SCOPE project to provide an open standard CityGML Application Domain Extension review and schema encoding. This work builds on Snowflake’s leading role implementing the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Model Driven Approach to managed Geography Markup Language (GML) application schema design and optimisation for use in practical applications and web services.

This work is undertaken within the wider i-SCOPE project under Work Package 3.2, a European Commission co-funded project looking at how 3D Urban Information Models can be used together with other data to improve decision-making, promote inclusion, and involve citizens. ( http://www.iscopeproject.net/)

i-SCOPE aims to provide a significant contribution to standards in the domain of smart city services, through the extension and wider adoption of CityGML as the key enabling Open Standard for 3D smart city services. The i-SCOPE use cases are:

The project shall develop open standard ways for domain information, from the specified use-cases, to relate to city models that conform to the Open Geospatial Consortium’s CityGML specification.  This involves the development of CityGML Application Domain Extensions (ADEs).

Snowflake will undertake a review of detailed requirements for noise simulation and mapping and the manifestation of a model and CityGML ADE schema to meet those requirements.

"This contract builds on Snowflake's proven track record in complex GML application schema design, and the use and extension of CityGML in combination with events and real world sensor measurements is a design pattern that could be applied to many other domains where sensor information needs to be fused or linked with other structured data." commented Alex Brooker, Principal Consultant at Snowflake Software.

The work, awarded by the OSGB, sits alongside recent contract awards from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) for an S-100 GML profile and route exchange schemas and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) projects for the Aviation (AIXM) GML profile and Weather (WXXM) GML application schemas.
