EOS Names Tim Morris New VP of North America

Morris to guide company’s expansion of additive manufacturing (AM) applications

Novi, Mich., September 5, 2012—As additive manufacturing matures into an increasingly mainstream manufacturing technology, EOS—the technology and market leader for design-driven integrated e-Manufacturing solutions—has announced the appointment of Tim Morris as Vice President, EOS of North America, Inc.

“Tim Morris brings extensive, specialized experience to his new post that will help us find and support customers who wish to explore the many benefits of producing end-use parts with laser sintering,” says Dr. Hans J. Langer, founder and CEO of EOS.

Morris was formerly the General Manager at Trumpf North America, where he oversaw the sales and service activities of the Laser Technology Division. He spent more than a decade with the company in various capacities.

Morris has worked in a wide range of other fields, including aerospace, automotive, medical, and consumer electronics. “I look forward to putting my experience and broad industry background to work for EOS,” he says. “We can help companies transition successfully from prototyping to production, and we can also support those who want to expand upon their traditional manufacturing processes.”

A number of North American companies are already manufacturing with the EOS technology using one of the 130 systems currently installed in the field since EOS established a U.S. presence ten years ago. Products are wide-ranging, from patient-specific plastic drill guides for surgery and polyamide components for unmanned aircraft, to metal tooling inserts and dental copings. Metals, especially, are finding manufacturing applications in such industries as aerospace and medical. To date, approximately 450 of the 1,100 EOS systems installed globally are direct metal laser-sintering (DMLSTM) systems.

Morris’ duties in his new role include managing sales/marketing, service/application engineering and administration. He will also oversee the EOS of North America, Inc. family of companies such as Advanced Laser Materials (ALM) and Integra, which specialize in researching and developing engineered materials for additive manufacturing processes, along with providing comprehensive customer support.

Morris will be based in Novi, Michigan, where EOS has established its Technical Center for North America hosting both plastic and metal systems and a lab where applications engineers meet with manufacturers to explore the suitability of the technology for their products.

About EOS

Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Germany, EOS is the technology and market leader for design-driven, integrated e-Manufacturing solutions for industrial applications. EOS offers a modular solution portfolio including systems, software and materials and their further development. The portfolio is completed by services like maintenance, training as well as specific application consulting and support. The Additive Manufacturing (AM) process allows the fast and flexible production of high-end parts at a repeatable industry level of quality. As a disruptive technology, it paves the way for a paradigm shift in product design and manufacturing. It accelerates product development, offers freedom of design, optimizes part structures—also enabling lattice structures—and functional integration, and, as such, creates significant competitive advantages for its customers.
