DP Technology Announces Full Support for Deployment of STEP-NC Standard: ESPRIT CAM executives join Advanced Technology Project (ATP) Industrial Review Board

Camarillo, CA- DP Technology, software developer of the ESPRIT CAM system, announces their full support for the deployment of the STEP-NC standard. DP now offers complete backing for the Model Driven Intelligent Control of Manufacturing project (MDICM), an Advanced Technology Project (ATP) issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop and deploy a digital input standard for CNC machines.

As a demonstration of DP Technology's commitment, Chuck Mathews (Vice President of Marketing) and Mark Palma (Product Manager) have joined the ATP Industrial Review Board. The Industrial Review Board, comprised of leaders in the U.S. and Canadian metalworking communities, meets every six months to share the newest developments in STEP-NC and review plans for future technologies.

About STEP-NC
STEP-NC is an extension of STEP (Standard for Product Data Exchange) that annotates the ISO standard for CAD design data with manufacturing information for Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) systems. Utilizing STEP-NC, an integrated CAD/CAM System can create instructions about stock, part features, and tool requirements and feed these instructions to a CNC machine with an on-line CAM system at the machine tool control. The goal of STEP-NC is encompassed by the Super Model project, an initiative to create one, super, publicly available data specification for manufacturing processes. The Super Model project estimates that STEP-NC will produce a 35% time reduction in defining part programs, a 75% reduction in the number of drawings that have to be sent from design to manufacturing, and a 50% time reduction in manufacturing parts for small to mid- sized job lots.

Appointed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop and deploy STEP-NC, STEP Tools, Inc. (Troy, NY) spearheads both the Super Model project and the Industrial Review Board. STEP Tools' goal is to promote and facilitate the sharing of engineering product information for worldwide design and manufacturing.
