Can the U.S. Afford to Export Its Manufacturing Economy?
Global competition is driving an increasing number of small to medium-sized manufacturers either out of business or out of the U.S. and into places like China. Conventional wisdom says that this type of global competition ultimately drives costs down and benefits both buyers and sellers throughout the global marketplace. But what are the hidden costs? And what are the implications for the future of the U.S. economy if we continue to export manufacturing jobs?
