Metris Announces the Integration of Metris Scanners on FARO Arms

Leuven – Metris the market leader in CMM based scanners announces the integration of the Metris LC50 scanner on the FARO seven-axis portable arms. This integration enables customers to standardize on the Metris scanners for CMM's and portable arms. This new integration on the FARO arm expands the versatility of Metris laser scanners from repetitive inspection on an automated CMM to a fast, portable measurement solution for troubleshooting. The Metris LC50 scanner, originally designed for high accuracy CMM measurements, operates within the accuracy of the arm.

The scanner is seamlessly integrated on both hardware and software level:
  • The design of the hardware interface is fully compatible with the Faro arm pistol grip and also allows the use of touch probes. The data is acquired over the Renishaw multi-wire cable at almost 20000 points per second and immediately visible on screen for evaluation.
  • The Metris Scan Handheld 2.0 software version offers the same user interface as the Metris Scan CMM version facilitating the job for the operator. The user controls scanning, intensity settings and viewing direction through the start/stop buttons on the Faro arm.
The Metris scanner on Faro arm can be used together with the Metris full part-to-CAD inspection and reverse engineering software. The integration on the FARO arm further establishes Metris as a 'one-stop shop' provider of non-contact solutions.
