SolidWorks and COSMOS streamline large assembly design, cut production errors for machines that prepare and package everything from sliced cheese to medical supplies
CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2003-- Convenience Food Systems (CFS) has standardized on SolidWorks(R) software to design the industrial food processing and packaging machines it sells to global food companies, SolidWorks announced today. SolidWorks 3D mechanical design software accelerates large-assembly design for CFS' machines, while COSMOS(TM) analysis software reduces production errors so CFS can speed products to customers.
Based in the Netherlands, CFS is one of the world's foremost
convenience food packaging, preparation, processing, and marination
machine makers. It comprises nine different companies that specialize
in designing and building machines and production lines that do
everything from preparing and packaging frozen grilled hamburgers to
packaging dog food. One unit also packages a variety of medical
supplies such as sterile forceps. CFS purchased 50 licenses of
SolidWorks to transition to solid modeling so CFS' engineers can
visualize their finished products better than they could with static
2D drawings. This visualization, coupled with advanced large-assembly
design capabilities, helps engineers accelerate design time while
fine-tuning their machines.
"Our customers want our machines to fit their exact
specifications," said Aart Plomp, CFS operations director. "The need
to customize product designs and deliver new products faster than
before outpaced AutoCAD's capabilities. SolidWorks allows us to
quickly tailor new product designs to each customer's needs.
COSMOSWorks(TM) and COSMOSMotion(TM) allow us to test our designs to
ensure that we get them right the first time."
COSMOSWorks ensures the machines will stand up to production
stresses. COSMOSMotion prevents any moving parts from interfering with
each other and slowing production.
"The public doesn't realize the amount of work that goes into
preparing food and packaging it in a manner that makes consumers feel
confident about their purchase," said Michel Gros, executive vice
president for SolidWorks Europe. "Convenience Food Systems has built
an international reputation for smart and efficient packaging
solutions. SolidWorks and COSMOS will help it meet its customers'
specific needs and grow that reputation."
CFS is working with SolidWorks' reseller, CADMES in Hertogenbosch,
