PackSys Global Group Standardizes on SolidWorks to Reap New Efficiencies in Design and Collaboration

Manufacturer abandons old mechanical design software to foster
global interoperability, time savings, and value with SolidWorks

CONCORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2003-- PackSys Global Ltd., an international company specializing in packaging machine engineering, has standardized on SolidWorks(R) 3D mechanical design software for its worldwide operations.

PackSys Global will use SolidWorks software in Thailand and Switzerland to design packaging machines with up to 10,000 parts or more. Standardizing on SolidWorks instead of continuing to use three different software packages will reduce project time and costs and increase efficiency by fostering global data compatibility among engineers, customers, and suppliers. Standardization will also eliminate the training and maintenance costs of supporting multiple software packages. Other decisive factors were SolidWorks' ease of use, affordability, stability, customer support, and ability to handle large component groups. PackSys looks forward to further leveraging its investment by integrating SolidWorks into its existing manufacturing and enterprise resource planning (ERP) infrastructure.

The PackSys Global group (PSG) comprises three companies specializing in the manufacture of packaging machines. Its product portfolio includes machines for the manufacture of tubes, cans, and closures made of plastic or metal, as well as package labeling, decorating, and shaping equipment. PSG companies KMK and Oberburg Engineering are headquartered in Switzerland, and PSG-Wesco company is headquartered in Thailand.

"PackSys Global and other packaging industry companies have special design needs, including dealing with large assemblies and frequent change, which puts a premium on accelerating the design process," said Michel Gros, executive vice president for SolidWorks Europe. "SolidWorks is uniquely positioned to satisfy these requirements, within and across national boundaries, and we look forward to helping PackSys secure a consistent and expanding return on investment."

Dozens of packaging industry companies around the world use SolidWorks, including Abbott Laboratories, HARTNESS International, International Paper, Iomega Corp., M&M Mars, McKee Foods, and Robert Bosch GmbH.

PackSys Global is working with SolidWorks reseller Solid Solutions for ongoing software training, implementation, and support.
