WALTHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/17/2003 -- Eigner, a leading developer of precision product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Kollmorgen Electro-Optical, the premier designer and supplier of advanced submarine periscopes, optronics, and masts, as well as weapon systems for surface ships, combat vehicles, and other defense platforms for the United States Department of Defense and its allies, has selected Eigner as its PLM solution provider.
Headquartered in Northampton, Massachusetts, Kollmorgen has been the primary designer for all U.S. Navy periscopes since 1916. As part of an initiative to streamline its product development process, Kollmorgen sought a PLM solution capable of better managing the intellectual property associated with the company's product lines.
Leveraging Eigner's single data model, Kollmorgen will consolidate product data from disparate systems, creating an enterprise-level product record that is tightly integrated with the company's ERP and Pro/Engineer mechanical CAD applications. Eigner PLM will enable the company to not only capture and better manage Kollmorgen's product record, but also automate a number of engineering activites traditionally tracked on paper, such as engineering change management.
With Eigner PLM, Kollmorgen will streamline engineering processes with automated workflows, gaining the ability to track product configurations by serial number through the "As Designed," "As Built" and "As Delivered" phases while reducing bill-of-material creation time and improving bill-of-material accuracy. In addition to improving the visibility and traceability of product information, Eigner PLM will enable Kollmorgen to replace its existing CAD file management application, reducing the number of systems to administer and lowering total cost of ownership for PLM.
"Kollmorgen is known for its ability to accept any electro-optical or motion control challenge and then design to it, build it, test it, and stand behind it," said Dave Graves, vice president of finance at Kollmorgen Electro-Optical. "After a rigorous benchmark process, it was clear to us that Eigner had the technology and the know-how to help us better manage our product record without adding additional burden to our IT resources and budget."
"Kollmorgen Electro-Optical is a well-respected US-based manufacturer that has a clear understanding of how product lifecycle management can benefit its organization. To be selected over other major PLM players is a tribute to our ability to help organizations gain control over their product record - the intellectual property and processes associated with the products a company builds," said Frank Azzolino, president and CEO of Eigner. "Once again, our prior customer successes, combined with our deep domain expertise, have enabled us to bring another world-class organization into the Eigner family. Kollmorgen's selection of Eigner is another indication of our growing momentum in the North American PLM market."
