Creaform Becomes Geomagic Distributor

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 16, 2003 – Raindrop Geomagic has reached an agreement with Canada-based Creaform to distribute Geomagic Studio reverse-engineering software to its customers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Creaform ( is a leading technology and service provider for laser scanning, reverse engineering and 3D inspection. The company also serves as the North American technical and integration center for Kreon Technologies, maker of the Zephyr laser scanning system. The Zephyr system is compatible with coordinate measurement arms, CMM and CNC technologies, as well as advanced design and inspection software.

"Raindrop Geomagic seeks out partners that are proven leaders in design and engineering services," says Jim Johnson, Raindrop Geomagic's vice president of worldwide sales. "Creaform's expertise in integrating laser scanning with digital design technologies will be valuable in helping us expand the Geomagic user base."

Geomagic software automatically processes scan data from a physical part to generate highly accurate polygon and CAD surface models. It enables manufacturers to move easily between the physical part or mold and its digital model, resulting in greater speed, accuracy and reliability.

"Geomagic's capacity to generate CAD models quickly, reducing the surface reconstruction for complex shapes from one week to one day in most cases, makes it the missing bridge between laser scans and applications," says Charles Mony, Creaform's president. "We are always evaluating the best technology on the market to provide integrated solutions to customers, and Geomagic is a proven leader in the reverse-engineering space."

Raindrop Geomagic ( provides software that enables closed-loop processes for reverse engineering, mass customization and quality assurance. Manufacturers worldwide – including Toyota, Harley-Davidson, Fisher-Price, Align and many others – turn to Raindrop Geomagic to provide the technology for customizing products, automating processes and increasing throughput.
