Dell Breaks 3GHz Speed Barrier in Notebook Computing; New Processor Provides Desktop-Class Performance Without Sacrificing Battery Life

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 2003--The 3GHz-speed barrier broke today on Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) notebooks with the introduction of the Inspiron 5150 to customers worldwide.

Starting at $1,549(a), the Inspiron 5150 is powered by the new Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor at 3.06 GHz(b). Intel's new mobile processor combines desktop class performance with mobile power management features, including Intel's Enhanced SpeedStep(R) technology. The result is portable computing power that surpasses the 3GHz speed barrier with lower power requirements that deliver up to approximately four hours of battery life. The Inspiron 5150 also includes multimedia features such as ATI Mobility(tm) RADEON(tm) 9000 Graphics (32MB or 64MB) and crisp, bright 15-inch displays.

"Our customers want a powerful combination of usability and value," said John Hamlin, senior vice president and general manager of Dell's U.S. Consumer Business. "The Inspiron 5150 delivers on both like never before."

The Inspiron 5150 easily manages digital-content editing for such media as music, photos and movies, and effortlessly handles office-productivity applications. Transferring large amounts of data or multimedia files is quick work with two USB 2.0 ports and an IEEE 1394 port. Staying connected, either at home or out and about, is straightforward via integrated modem, Ethernet and optional integrated wireless solutions (802.11b/g(c) or 802.11a/b/g(c)).

The new notebook's base configuration includes Microsoft's Windows(R) XP Home Edition operating system, WordPerfect(tm) Productivity Pack, Dell Juke Box powered by MUSICMATCH(tm) for listening to digital music, Dell Picture Studio(tm) for processing and sharing digital photos, a six month membership to America Online(d), DellNet by MSN(e) or Earthlink(f), in addition to a 90-day introductory subscription offer to Dell's SecurityCenter. Dell SecurityCenter, powered by Network Associate's McAfee anti-virus technology, is a collection of applications designed to provide customers comprehensive protection against Internet threats, such as unauthorized access by hackers, viruses and inappropriate content.
