Robert Bosch GmbH Extends Use of Tecnomatix eMPower Solution for Production Optimization

World's Second-Largest Automotive Technology Supplier Extends Use of eMPower(TM) Software Globally; Reports Significant Reductions in Ramp-up and Cycle Times

NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 2003-- Tecnomatix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: TCNO), the driving force in Manufacturing Process Management (MPM), today announced that Robert Bosch GmbH, a world-leading supplier of automotive technology, is extending its use of eM-RealNC software from Tecnomatix to production plants in Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, the Czech Republic, USA and Japan. What started as a pilot numerical-controlled (NC) application in Bosch's central location for research and advanced development in Schwieberdingen, Germany, has developed into a standard NC simulation technology for the optimization of metal-working production throughout Bosch.

Simulation with eM-RealNC enables detailed analysis and optimization of NC programs, taking into consideration the entire manufacturing environment - including machines, clamping devices, workpieces and tools. Two substantial application scenarios have resulted from this: Before the start of production, the simulation system can be used to verify newly provided NC programs, accelerating the production start-up of new products. After production start-up, NC programs can be further optimized and the throughput of production plants increased.

Bosch has experienced reductions of up to 90 percent in ramp-up times for new NC programs, as well as up to 15 percent reductions in cycle times. In one example, production capacity in one manufacturing plant was so extensively enhanced that even after an increase of customer release orders, no additional machines had to be procured.

"Our use of this software has continuously grown as Tecnomatix has proven to be a reliable partner over the years. With eM-RealNC, treatment process optimization can be accomplished with very good results," said Franz Imhof, project leader with Robert Bosch GmbH.

"The global competitive situation forces enterprises in the manufacturing industry to produce ever more efficiently in the face of continuous or rising quality requirements," said Harel Beit-On, chairman and CEO of Tecnomatix Technologies Ltd. "Standardizing on eMPower eM-RealNC makes it possible for Bosch to significantly increase existing production capacity without additional investment."
