InnovMetric Software to Unveil Major New Reverse Engineering Capabilities with PolyWorks/Modeler? Version 8

Qu颥c City, Qc, Canada – June 9, 2003 - InnovMetric Software announced today that it will launch the eighth version of its world-leading reverse-engineering software PolyWorks/Modeler™ in the upcoming weeks. In addition to the new rapid-surfacing module announced in May, PolyWorks/Modeler will soon present refined editing tools and interfaces that have been optimized for quick and easy processing, thereby increasing user productivity.
        
“PolyWorks/Modeler’s solid reputation has been built on the superior accuracy of its polygonal models and on its impressive capability of handling huge point clouds, permitting unique applications such as CFD on polygonal meshes and enlargement of various objects such as clay models and sculptures by more than 10 times”, said Marc Soucy, President of InnovMetric Software Inc. “With the addition of a new NURBS generation module to the PolyWorks/Modeler suite, manufacturers worldwide will now have a new tool that gives them the possibility of using the surfacing methodology that better meets the combined requirements of their design and production departments”, he continued.
        
InnovMetric announces a series of breakthrough capabilities in PolyWorks/Modeler Version 8:

  • A new Edge Wizard automatically detects sharp edges and fillets and extracts picture-perfect theoretical edge lines & fillet tangent lines. The new tool is remarkable as it also detects corners and forks, stopping the detection of feature curves at the right location.

  • End-users can now lay down curve networks over a polygonal surface and best-fit a set of G1-continuous NURBS surfaces over a curve network. The resulting surfaces may then be imported into CAD software for additional manipulation. PolyWorks’ rapid surfacing methodology allows the creation of T-junctions, enabling the creation of CAD-ready curve networks and drastically reducing the time needed to rework the model in CAD software.

  • PolyWorks/Modeler now features the most powerful hole-filling solution on the market. Within seconds and with little memory consumption, small and large holes are filled with curvature-continuous polygonal surfaces.

    InnovMetric has also invested considerable effort for improving interfaces and increasing user’s productivity:

  • All user interfaces are now directly linked with on-line PDF-based documentation in order to access very detailed explanations with one mouse click.

  • All curve and surface interfaces have been completely revised. Parameter windows encapsulating all settings have been designed for each operation, and can be popped up or down with one mouse click.

  • All editing operations are now mapped in a convenient toolbar.

    PolyWorks/Modeler™ V8 will be released in June 2003.
