MSC.Software and Biomechanics Research Group, Inc. Form Strategic Partnership to Deliver Biomechanics Simulation Solutions

MSC.Software Expands Biomedical Product Portfolio With Biomechanics Modeling Software Based on MSC.ADAMS

SANTA ANA, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MSC.Software Corp. the leading global provider of virtual product development products including simulation software, services and systems, today announced a strategic partnership with San Clemente, CA-based Biomechanics Research Group (BRG), Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, MSC.Software will market and support biomechanics simulation solutions including the BRG LifeMOD(R), Biomechanics Modeler to orthopedic and prosthetic device manufacturers and supporting research institutions worldwide.

"MSC.Software is committed to helping medical device manufacturers study and analyze the performance of their devices early in the development process by considering realistic human motion. By performing this type of analysis early in the design cycle, biomedical engineers can gain more knowledge about the behavior of the devices and prevent fatigue or durability problems from occurring later on," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "This partnership agreement reflects MSC.Software's commitment to serving the multi-billion dollar worldwide medical-device R&D market including orthopedic, dental, ocular/ophthalmic and cardiovascular."

The Biomechanics Research Group, Inc., in collaboration with several orthopedic companies and research institutions, has developed software tools based on MSC.Software's MSC.ADAMS motion simulation technology. This collaboration has resulted in the industry standard biomechanics modeling tool, the LifeMOD(R), Biomechanics Modeler.

According to Shawn McGuan, president and CEO of the Biomechanics Research Group, Inc., LifeMOD represents the next generation in human simulation. "LifeMOD was built from 15 years worth of techniques, algorithms and databases we developed while performing human simulations for a wide variety of commercial and university clients," McGuan explains, "As such, LifeMOD is a general human modeling tool capable of developing models appropriate for a wide range of applications such as orthopedics, injury, sports, clinical, medical, comfort, etc." He continues: "It is also perfect for biomechanics students interested in a wide exposure to the field."

LifeMOD is currently the de facto standard teaching and research tool in many universities throughout the world. Industry clients are using LifeMOD to investigate new rehabilitation strategies, orthopedic device function, safety equipment design, athletic performance and workplace safety issues. McGuan adds, "This partnership provides the optimal combination of talent and resource to deliver novel solutions to the world-wide health, safety and sports market."
