MSC.Software Helps Polaris Industries Design and Test Recreational Vehicles

Leading Manufacturer of ATVs and Snowmobiles Standardizes on MSC.ADAMS Software Tools, Illustrating Demand for Simulation Technology in New Markets

SANTA ANA, Calif., May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MSC.Software Corp. , the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) simulation software, services and systems, today announced that Medina, Minnesota-based Polaris Industries has standardized on MSC.ADAMS software tools for the design and development of recreational vehicles. Polaris Industries Inc. designs, engineers and manufactures all terrain vehicles (ATVs), snowmobiles, motorcycles and personal watercraft (PWC) and had revenues of more than $1.5 billion in 2002.

"There are thousands of manufacturers around the world who are looking to start using, or increase the use of, VPD technology to help them develop better products in less time and for less cost," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software. "The MSC.Software team is focused on developing customer relationships in targeted industries, like recreational and off-road vehicles, where our software, services and systems offerings can add real value to the design and testing process for new products. We see this as a significant market opportunity and are confident that simulation will be an ever-increasing part of the process for companies like Polaris."

"Polaris chose MSC.ADAMS primarily because of the template-based approach to engineering solutions, the efficiencies of which allows us to explore more ideas up-front in the design process," said John Callahan, Chief Technology Officer at Polaris Industries. "This will allow a re-focusing of the experimental based test strategies for further refinement of Polaris recreational vehicle attributes. We view MSC.Software as a key partner in achieving our Virtual Product Development goals."

In 2002, Polaris placed orders for multiple seats of MSC.ADAMS software licenses. Polaris currently uses MSC.ADAMS to design suspension and steering systems for Polaris's ATV line in order to predict general vehicle dynamics and loads for durability analysis. In 2003, Polaris plans to phase in use of MSC.ADAMS into the design process for snowmobiles, motorcycles and ultimately into their personal watercraft line.
