MOORPARK, CA – April 18, 2003 – Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, announced today that the 50th post processor for the GibbsCAM MTM (Multi- Task Machining) option was recently delivered to a customer. Just like MTM-class machine tools, the MTM post processors delivered cover an extremely broad variety of machine configurations, ranging from a single spindle/turret with sub-spindle, to a single spindle/dual turret, to dual spindle/multi-turret, all the way to multi-spindle/multi-turret and Swiss-style turning centers.

"Creating an MTM post is really a unique customization of GibbsCAM," explains Bill Gibbs, president and founder of Gibbs and Associates. "GibbsCAM not only ensures that the posted output is correct, but that all the significant aspects of the machine tool itself have been accurately represented." Each MTM post processor delivered includes a post file and machine tool definition files which customize GibbsCAM to support a specific machine tool configuration right down to its utility operations. This level of machine tool specificity is required to efficiently program an MTM-class machine tool. So far MTM post processors have been developed for numerous machines including: Daewoo, Eurotech Elite, Gildemeister Gital (multi-spindle), Haas, Hardinge, Hitachi Seiki, Index, Mazak Integrex, Miyano, Mori Seiki, Nakamura Tome, Okuma, Schaublin and Traub (swiss-style).

In order to accurately capture each machine tool's specific configuration, Gibbs and Associates' trained application engineers work directly with the customer and the machine tool builder researching it. In many instances, the machine tool is so new to the customer that the AE's research exposes the breadth of its functionality to the customer. Once the research phase is completed, a comprehensive understanding of the machine tool and its usage is established allowing a post processor supporting it to be developed.

Already in production use at a number of customer sites, the GibbsCAM MTM module will be demonstrated at the upcoming Precision Machining Technology Show (PMTS) trade show held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio from May 6-8, 2003.
