Immersion Enables Designers/Engineers to Feel and Manipulate CATIA V5 Models; VirtualHand for V5 Interaction Software Suite Launches at COE Spring 2003 Conference

COE Spring 2003 Conference

Booth #123

NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 2003--Immersion Corp. (Nasdaq: IMMR), a leading developer of haptic (touch) feedback technology, announced the launch and availability of its new hand-interaction software suite, VirtualHand(R) for V5, which is based on the CAA V5 (Component Application Architecture) development platform.

VirtualHand for V5, which is compatible with the upcoming V5-R11 release, allows V5 users of Immersion's CyberForce(R) hardware to experience realistic force feedback with their entire hand while touching or grasping a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) model.

At the COE Spring 2003 Conference this week, Immersion will demonstrate VirtualHand for V5 software running on its new Haptic Workstation(TM), a two-hand force-feedback simulation system. Attendees trying the product will be immersed in a 3D CATIA V5 model of an automobile interior and be able to physically use their hands to interact with and feel components on the graphical dashboard.

"Development of VirtualHand for V5 was driven by considerable demand from designers and engineers needing 'hands on' evaluation of their CATIA V5 designs," said Dr. James Kramer, vice president of business development at Immersion. "Literally putting the design in the hands of designers helps them quickly and easily meet their engineering objectives. They can test ergonomic and maintenance procedures before building a physical prototype, leading to a superior final design with reduced time and expense."

The VirtualHand for V5 Suite comprises two products:

-- "VirtualHand for V5-Design" enables engineers throughout the enterprise to manipulate their 3D graphical designs while wearing an Immersion CyberGlove(R) hand-sensing glove. Users wearing a CyberTouch(TM) hand-sensing glove additionally feel tactile feedback sensations.
-- "VirtualHand for V5-DMU" together with Immersion's CyberForce(R) system, enhances the V5 immersive digital mockup environment by providing advanced hand and arm force feedback for more realistic design reviews.

Immersion is introducing VirtualHand for V5 through its recent Software Community Partnership with Dassault Systemes (see separate press release dated Feb. 10, 2003).
