Delcam Offers Free 5-Axis Machining Workshops

Leading CADCAM developer Delcam is to hold a series of free 5-axis machining workshops for toolmakers and production machining companies looking to invest in this technology or to improve the productivity of their existing equipment. The workshops will be held on 2nd and 3rd July at the West Notts College, in Mansfield. A morning and afternoon session will be held on each day.

5-axis machining offers many advantages, including the ability to manufacture components in fewer set-ups and so increase productivity, and the possibility of using shorter cutters and so improve quality and reduce hand finishing. Despite this, the technology has, until recently, been used mainly by larger companies in the aerospace industry. Other potential users have been discouraged by the higher price of the equipment and the complexity of the programming required.

Now both these barriers are being reduced. The price of 5-axis machines has fallen so that they are now much more affordable for smaller companies. At the same time, developments in Delcam’s PowerMILL machining software have made the programming of 5-axis operations much easier and quicker. Successful installations are now operating in a wide range of toolmakers and precision machinists, such as A.F Gaskin, DACMAC, Midland Precision and Rojac Tooling Technologies.

5-axis machining now represents a major opportunity for all sub-contractors looking to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce delivery times. The Delcam workshops will allow all companies to find out more about the benefits of the technology and its potential in their manufacturing operations.
