Joe Costello To Keynote Opening Of DAC

BOULDER, Colo.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 12, 2006— Joe Costello, chairman of Orb Networks and former chief executive officer (CEO) of Cadence Design Systems, will open this year's Design Automation Conference (DAC) with a keynote titled, "iPod or Iridium: Which One Are You Going To Be?"

The 43rd DAC, the electronic design automation (EDA) industry's premier event, will be held July 24-28 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Costello's address, scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m., has been designed to fit DAC's MEGa theme -- Multimedia, Entertainment and Games.

According to Costello, an incredible amount of time, resources and investment is being made by EDA, chip and electronics companies to win in the exploding multi-media, gaming and entertainment applications markets. With DAC doing a much-needed "deep dive" into how the semiconductor industry meets technical challenges, Costello will turn the spotlight away from technology and onto today's macro consumer trends.

During this session, Joe challenges participants with these fundamental questions: Are you going in the right direction? Are you bending your minds with the complexity of implementing modern-day systems and chips? Are you racing toward the right finish line? What are consumers really looking for? What will convergence really lead to and are you positioned to take advantage of all it will bring our industry and our world?

"It gives me great pleasure to announce that DAC has added Joe Costello to this year's program," says Ellen Sentovich, general chair of the 43rd DAC. "Please plan to join Joe has as he reveals lessons learned and offers a simple view of the future of electronics."

Costello's keynote is open to all DAC attendees and coincides with DAC's Free Monday Program, which offers passes for the exhibition floor free of charge Monday, July 24. Exhibition hours are 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
