Braintech Completes Vision Guided Robotic Solution Installations At General Motors Powertrain Plant

Four VGR Control Systems Now In Operation At Massena, New York Facility

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Braintech, Inc. (OTC: BRHI) (BULLETIN BOARD: BRHI) , a pioneer in 3D-Vision Guided Robotics (3D-VGR), today announced that the Company has completed the installation of three additional 3D-VGR control solutions at General Motors' Massena, New York powertrain plant, bringing total Braintech systems in operation at this facility to four.

The application involves locating and picking rough castings off of a monorail conveyer that comes to a stop at an approximate position within the robot work area. Because the castings do not seat properly on the monorail system, their location on the conveyer varies greatly. Braintech's VGR control solution uses 3D vision to locate each individual part and send the appropriate location and orientation data to the robot, which then adjusts its path to cleanly pick up the parts and load them into a sawing operation.

Jim Dara, Vice President of Sales/General Manager of North American Operations, noted, "We believe that General Motors' decision to expand the number of VGR systems at work in this plant is indicative of what we are seeing nearly across the board with each of our valued customers. Once a manufacturer experiences firsthand the numerous benefits associated with the deployment of Braintech's innovative VGR technologies -- benefits that include significantly reduced downtime, capital cost and increased productivity, they begin to proactively seek out other areas of their production line that can be directly enhanced with VGR. It is this type of real world, in-the-trench testimonials that are serving to drive the increasing demand for Braintech solutions."
