Dassault Systèmes’ DraftSight Surpasses One Million Downloads
Dassault Systèmes announced that DraftSight has surpassed one million downloads. Over the past year since the launch of the no-cost 2D CAD product, users have been utilizing its functionality for all types of CAD. Every month, the DraftSight website features the latest user stories and encourages new users to submit projects showing the inventive ways in which they’re using the product. In the past year, DraftSight has launched the general availability of the product for Windows, a first and second beta for Mac and recently, a beta version of DraftSight for Linux. Along with these products, DraftSight unveiled its own DraftSight community, an online community that provides learning resources and encourages user questions, collaboration, and support. This community is one of the first social networks designed by engineers for engineers, designers, and architects.
Majenta PLM supplies, implements Siemens NX design software at leading super-yacht designer
Majenta PLM announced that it has been awarded a contract by super-yacht design company, John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs, to supply and implement Siemens NX design software. The software will be used throughout the entire yacht design process, including conceptual design, hull fairing and detailing, structural design, interior design and superstructure and deck gear design and detailing. With their new solution, the final 3D models created in NX of a complete yacht, including the hull form originally created in MacSurfPro (a popular hull-shape design tool among the yacht design community) form an integral part of the design package that John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs now issues to a ship-yard. Along with a comprehensive set of 2D detail drawings, these models enable the yard to take measurements and sections required for the construction process and to generate CNC tool paths for cutting patterns for mould tools. The NX model is also used to generate photo-realistic visualizations of the yacht’s exterior and interior for client presentation and design review purposes during the design process.
Astrium and EADS Innovation Works Partner with Dassault Systèmes to Design the Future of Space Vehicles
Dassault Systèmes announced a joint project with Astrium and EADS Innovation Works to develop solutions based on Dassault Systèmes’ Version 6 platform that will enable to improve Astrium’s and EADS’ internal engineering methods, through the use of an innovative and revolutionary concept: the functional digital mockup (FDMU). The FDMU, unlike a digital mockup, which is associated more to the 3D geometry of a vehicle, will play an essential role during the exploration design phase. Based on Dassault Systèmes’ RFLP (Requirements, Functional, Logical, and Physical) concept, it will add a whole new dimension to multi-disciplinary collaboration at various stages of development, using CATIA, ENOVIA and SIMULIA. The goal of this project is to prove that increased teamwork between the different disciplines will ensure that vehicle solutions which may have otherwise been overlooked will be brought to the forefront and discussed early. The development of an aerospace vehicle is a combined effort of many disciplines contributing their know-how and expertise throughout the engineering process. Multiple teams including propulsion, aerodynamics, and systems, explore different variants of the future vehicle to come up with a solution that best balances the set of multi-disciplinary requirements. The purpose of the exploration design phase is to review and agree on the most optimized component or vehicle configuration as early as possible. The project is expected to produce its first conclusions by the end of 2011.
