MSC.SuperForge Application Gives Automotive Engineers Valuable Forging Simulation Tools, Reducing Costly Trials and Increasing Product Development Efficiency
SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2001-- MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS - news), the leading global provider of simulation software, services and systems, and Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM - news), today announced that Toyota has selected MSC.SuperForge to guide the design of forging processes for its automotive manufacturing.
MSC.SuperForge is a simulation software application that gives engineers the ability to simulate forging processes on a desktop computer without wasting time and money on shop floor tests, resulting in reduced design and manufacturing costs.
"MSC.SuperForge gives Toyota production engineers a fast and easy-to-use technology to simulate forging processes and determine process design directions with less physical testing," said Tadao Akashi, manager of Production Engineering Planning and Development of Toyota Motor Corp.
"MSC has a long and distinguished history within the automotive industry and our work with Toyota is another example of the value our software can bring to automotive manufacturers," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive officer of MSC.Software.
"The ability for engineers to simulate forging processes in a computer environment allows them to test a wide variety of forging options and reduce the number of new processes and physical prototypes."
Competition within the automotive industry has forced manufacturers to re-evaluate design and manufacturing processes in the effort to introduce new vehicles to the market in less time and for less expense.
With technology applications like MSC.SuperForge, automotive manufacturers can investigate the effects of changing process parameters such as shape, temperature and friction variations on their forging processes and reduce the amount of "trial and error" physical prototyping.
