MODEL BASED DESIGN: Why you want it. Why you hate it.

Abstract

You want it because it seems like the direction all manufacturers are going. You want it because it seems that in our digital age, building hardware directly from an electronic file is the right thing to do. But you hate it because it is costing you money. It is overloading your overtaxed design engineers. CAD format translation errors are killing your production. Let’s talk about the MBD conundrum and figure out if it’s worth it. Does it save money? How can you implement it efficiently? What tools are missing? Come vent your pros and cons. We’ll do a trade study together and I will produce a report representing all attendees about the state of MBD and how we can take it to the next step.

About Jennifer Herron

Jennifer Herron turns cocktail-napkin ideas into visual model-based designs. Her consulting firm, Action Engineering, helps companies bring their hardware ideas to life. With over 14 years of experience, she has proven her ability to develop workable designs, plans, standards and processes, while also training teams to adopt and maintain model-based design systems.

While her focus is on model-based design, her firm also offers mechanical engineering services for more traditional needs such as conceptual and detailed designs of structures, mechanisms, electronic enclosures, and interface specifications and requirements.

As an experienced designer, she also offers concise and simple technical writing for proposals or hardware system descriptions.
