Siemens Audiology Group Expands Eigner PLM Implementation Into Product Marketing

Extended Implementation Automatically Generates Marketing Collateral From Eigner PLM

WALTHAM, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/17/2003 -- Eigner, a leading developer of precision product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH, the worldwide leader in manufacturing and sales of hearing instruments, has further extended its Eigner PLM deployment. The newest phase of the Siemens implementation provides its marketing organization with the ability to automatically generate formatted product marketing collateral and service documents directly from the product record managed by Eigner PLM.

“Constantly updating technical documentation for several lines of hearing devices in multiple languages can be a costly and time-consuming challenge for a worldwide organization,” said Hans Mirsberger, head of information and process management at Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH. “However, by leveraging the work completed in engineering, our marketing organization has access to a solution that enables us to deliver up-to-date, finished-quality technical documentation at the click of a button.”

"The intellectual property associated with the products a company designs, builds and services is what Eigner refers to as the product record. By gaining control over the product record, a manufacturer can generate immediate, tangible benefits to the organization as a whole -- not just engineering," said Frank Azzolino, president and CEO of Eigner. "Because Siemens realizes the strategic importance of the product record, the work completed to improve the efficiency and productivity of the engineering department is now being used to accelerate the collateral development process while reducing overall marketing costs."

Leveraging the product information managed in Eigner PLM, the Eigner Integration Platform (EIP) automatically generates XML-based documents based on selections made by technical editors. The XML documents are passed directly to Adobe FrameMaker, which produces finished documents based on the Siemens templates. Initially, the Siemens’ system can produce output in German and English, with additional languages to follow.
