Engineous Software and Simmetrix Sign FIPER Vendor Participant Agreement; Simmetrix To Provide A CAE Mesh Generation Component For the FIPER Infrastructure

CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 2003--Engineous Software, Inc., provider of the award-winning integration, automation, and design improvement software iSIGHT, and related strategic services, announced today the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Engineous and Simmetrix Inc.

Simmetrix, a leading provider of OEM component technology for simulation-based design and CAD/CAE integration, has agreed to join the FIPER Vendor Participant program to provide a CAE mesh generation component as part of the FIPER solution. Simmetrix will join the growing team of software and hardware vendors, universities, and service providers who will participate in the creation of FIPER-enabled technologies.

"The process of taking geometry, such as CAD data, meshing it, and applying loads and boundary conditions to prepare for analysis is cumbersome, and is still often done manually," said Janet C. Wylie, President and CEO of Engineous. "The FIPER component developed by Simmetrix will provide a quicker, cleaner way to move from geometry to analysis. With years of experience helping software vendors and manufacturing companies integrate simulation into the design process, Simmetrix is an excellent choice for a CAE component provider."

"Physics simulations, such as Finite Element methods, are rapidly becoming an increasingly integral part of the design process for engineered products. The FIPER environment from Engineous provides an infrastructure designed to reduce the time-to market for these engineered products. Therefore it is very clear that automated CAE mesh generation directly from CAD geometry is an excellent fit in the FIPER environment and a key component necessary to achieve integrated CAD/CAE functionality. " Said Joe Walsh, Vice President, Business Development of Simmetrix Inc. "We look forward to working with Engineous to provide an effective integrated CAD/CAE solution."

About the FIPER project

The FIPER project is a four-year $21.5 million project co-funded by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of its Advanced Technology Program. FIPER establishes a "Federated Intelligent Product EnviRonment" that streamlines the design of highly engineered products, integrating legacy and best-of-breed analytical and design tools through a web-enabled environment. Vendor participants will be responsible for adapting their products to work in the FIPER environment. The FIPER joint venture team is comprised of a synergistic group of large, medium, and small companies, including the commercialization agent (Engineous Software, Inc.), manufacturing companies (Goodrich, General Electric, OAI, and Parker Hannifin), and universities (Ohio University and Stanford University). This team will develop, demonstrate, and disseminate FIPER technology. Engineous will deliver the first version of the commercial product in 2003.
