Alias|Wavefront Ships Latest StudioTools Upgrade

Unique 2D/3D approach to design development gets further enhancements

Toronto, Canada, March 13, 2003 – Alias|Wavefront™, an SGI (NYSE: SGI) company, is now shipping release 10.1 of StudioToolsTM, the company’s computer-aided industrial design (CAID) software. StudioTools 10.1 has been tuned to include workflow enhancements for 2D paint functions, more 3D modeling flexibility and improved data connectivity.

“The full featured paint program inside of StudioTools changes the way industrial designers solve problems in a single, highly creative environment. No other tool set allows a designer to combine 2D painterly expression with high end 3D execution,” explains Gray Holland of Alchemy Labs. “In this release Alias|Wavefront continues to polish its high end surfacing while bringing its paint program to full adulthood.”

Parallel 2D and 3D Workflow
StudioTools combines 2D and 3D into one unique design environment, giving industrial designers a faster way to create, explore, visualize and communicate design concepts. In the StudioTools 10.1 upgrade, Alias|Wavefront continues to evolve the paint tool set by enhancing the color, brush and layer editors, and by introducing texture brushes.

Greater Modeling Efficiency
StudioTools gives designers the sophisticated modeling functionality they need for fast, precision surfacing. Modeling improvements in StudioTools 10.1 accelerate the designers’ workflow, make modeling tasks easier and enhance overall modeling efficiency. For example the blend curve edit tool is improved to support rapid curve modifications.

Design and Engineering Collaboration
To assist in the close collaboration needed between designers and engineers, StudioTools 10.1 supports the newest version of the PTC® GraniteTM ONE Interoperability Kernel, allowing even better data exchange between PTC’s engineering software and StudioTools. StudioTools 10.1 also supports seamless data exchange to Unigraphics® NX 1.0 on Windows® and SGI® IRIX® platforms.
