Pharos Traveler 619 features broad keys on an expansive QWERTY keyboard for ease of input
TORRANCE, Calif. — December 10, 2008 — Pharos Science & Applications, Inc., a leading provider of location-based information and services, today introduced the Traveler 619, an unlocked Windows Mobile handset that features a spacious QWERTY keyboard with large keys designed for easier input. For mobile field workers and those who simply prefer working with keys that are easier to see and manipulate, the Traveler 619 provides a powerful smartphone with location-based services and the ability to connect to enterprise applications. The Traveler 619 is now available for $199.95.
Our Windows Mobile software is designed to work with a wide array of phones with different form factors, and is ideal to meet the demands of those that need a device like the Traveler 619 to stay connected to the office while working remotely. The Traveler 619 allows field staff to seamlessly connect with the Windows Mobile programs and services needed throughout their enterprise network, said Stephanie Ferguson, general manager, Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft.
The diminutive nature of standard QWERTY keyboards is a problem in industries where field workers need to input data while wearing gloves or traveling between job sites, said James Oyang, PhD, President, Pharos. The Traveler 619 provides the unified communications, interoperability with other applications and ease of input required in an enterprise-class, mobile field device.
Enclosed with a rubber-finished black case, the Traveler 619 provides 2.5G communications capability based on Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) with up to four hours of talk time and 200 hours of standby time. Microsoft Live Search draws location data from the embedded Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to provide location-based services including real-time traffic, gas prices and weather information. Integrated WiFi and Bluetooth extend the wireless options on the Traveler 619 and the 2.8 inch color touch screen offers users a second method of input. Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Traveler 619 is preloaded with Microsoft Office Mobile and mobile versions of Internet Explorer, Picture, Notes, ActiveSync, Calculator, Game, Voice Recorder, MSN Messenger, and Windows Media Player 10.
