TurboCAD Newsletter

TurboCAD Update
By Mauritz Botha, CTO

I’m pleased to re-introduce the TurboCAD newsletter.  We hope to maintain it as a quarterly newsletter for our customers to get a quick update on what’s new in the world of TurboCAD.

IMSI/Design released TurboCAD 15 last March, under the direction of Dave Taylor with many new and improved features, including bill of materials, parametric design enhancements, and environmentally friendly content.  This week, TurboCAD Pro 15.1 was made available for purchase or upgrade from the upgrade center, and owners of 15.0 can download the update from our support center at no charge.  This update offers many functional enhancements, most notably improved integration between the selecting info and style manager tools, improved file compatibility, and the ability to use profiles with railings.

Updates to the popular CAM Plug-in to TurboCAD Pro, and AnimationLab (plug-in to both TurboCAD Pro and TurboCAD Deluxe) were released this month, to operate on this latest version of TurboCAD.

CADcourse’s TurboCAD training developer Rob Berry released a new training program this month.  Check out Essential Printing Tools & Techniques to learn how to use tools such as model space and paper space with viewports, and how to create large-format printouts from PDF.  The multimedia training includes a PDF creation program for $49.95.

An Introduction and Invitation

By Dave Taylor, New TurboCAD Product Manager

Hi, I’m Dave Taylor the ‘new’ TurboCAD Product Manager.  I’ve put new in quotes because I’ve been involved directly and indirectly with TurboCAD for over 8 years now.

My introduction to TurboCAD came back in 1994, when I was hired by IMSI to do technical support on version 2!  The product has certainly changed immensely since then.  After a short stint in technical support, I moved over to IMSI’s FloorPlan 3D product, which I product managed and also helped with TurboCAD versions 4 & 5. Then, I took a hiatus from CAD and on into the world of eCommerce with another IMSIer helping to create a shopping cart called CustomCart which is still alive and kicking today.   In 2002, I returned to CAD and formed CADCourse dedicated to TurboCAD training and sales, with long-time TurboCAD evangelist and product manager, Rob Berry.  Finally, in 2007, I returned to IMSI (now IMSI/Design) and became the product manager for the TurboCAD Product line, both Windows and Mac versions.

I’m excited to be back and to be mapping out the direction and enhancements to this great product.  It is amazing to me how much better CAD solutions like TurboCAD and the related technologies have gotten over the past decade.   And to do my job better, I really value and depend upon input and feed-back from you, our TurboCAD users.  So, I invite you to contact me with any thoughts, issues or inspirations you might have about TurboCAD. dtaylor@imsidesign.com

Double lines drawn with the wall tool are self healing.  If you need to insert a door or window just create a block then drop the block on the wall.

   Intermediate
You can change the parameters of doors and windows in the selection info palette.  To change the appearance of doors and windows you must create a custom style in the style manager palette.

   Advanced
To change the location of railing on a staircase, select the railing and adjust the justify to stair setting under location.
When drawing for the world, that is designing an object to its true size, it’s difficult to think of the model space as having a paper size. Paper Space on the other must conform to the limitations of a physical printer. Rob Berry simplifies the process to unlock TurboCAD’s true printing potential.
