Amod Onkar (see photo) is the new Country Manager for SolidCAM India. He has over 12 years experience in the CAD/CAM industry. Before joining SolidCAM, Amod Onkar served 9 years as Technical Country Manager for Cimatron India, where he gained extensive experience in the Mold & Die industry and the Aerospace industry.

With a GDP growth rate of nearly 10%, India is one of the fastest growing economies worldwide. The emerging manufacturing industry in India contributes significantly to this growth. This has been emphasized at the recent Asian Machine Tool Exhibition Amtex 2008 in New Delhi, where SolidCAM demonstrated the latest version of its Integrated CAM solution. SolidCAM is already being used in various Tool & Mold Shops in India and also at some prestigious Engineering Institutions.

At Amtex 2008, we also announced the opening of our new subsidiary in India. Our main operations will be based in Bangalore with offices in the Western city of Pune and the Indian Capital New Delhi. Our new subsidiary will be headed by Mr. Amod Onkar as Country Manager India. With over 12 years experience in the CAD/CAM industry in India and South-East Asia, Amod Onkar has demonstrated leadership in the sales and support of manufacturing automation software. His skills will also support our activity to provide CNC programming services for Multiaxis Machining, as the demand for such services is growing rapidly.

  • Alcon Components Limited, based in Tamworth, UK, has gained a worldwide reputation for the manufacturing of complex components for the motorsport industry. Alcon supplies high specification brake callipers and clutches for racing cars like Formula 1 and high performance road vehicles.

Alcon is using 6 seats of SolidWorks in the Engineering and Design department. To optimize the overall manufacturing process, Alcon finally decided to introduce a new CAM system based on the following criteria:

    2. Broad range of CAM functionality
    3. Powerful post processor capabilities
    4. Excellent UK support
After intensive tests with 3 different CAM systems, the company purchased two seats of the combined solution "SolidWorks+SolidCAM". Bob Luck, Alcon´s CAD/CAM system manager: "We found out that SolidCAM reduced our NC programming time by half. Also, we have been pleased with the ease-of-use and power of the 2.5D Machining module." With the recent installation of a new 5-axis CNC Machining center from Hermle , SolidCAM's 5- axis simultaneous milling module is used to simulate and program the machining process.
